Zoom Video Communications is making significant strides in enhancing its AI Companion, scheduled to receive an agentic upgrade soon. This update will empower users to have the AI schedule meetings automatically, produce documents from discussions, and create video snippets—all accessible via a dedicated Tasks tab in the Zoom Workplace interface. This feature aims to streamline daily operations for workplace users, allowing them to delegate routine tasks to their virtual assistant, thus saving valuable time and fostering efficiency.

In addition to meeting scheduling capabilities, Zoom is rolling out several other features to enhance its offering. A new voice recorder will be integrated into the Zoom Workplace mobile application, designed to capture in-person meetings, transcribe discussions, and provide concise summaries. Furthermore, starting in May, Zoom will implement live notes that generate real-time summaries during meetings, enabling users to focus on the conversation without needing to take extensive notes. Notably, these enhancements will be available to Zoom Workplace customers without any additional fees, demonstrating a commitment to user experience and value.

Smita Hashim, Zoom’s Chief Product Officer, stated in an interview with The Verge that the integration of AI across various Zoom products aims to significantly bolster productivity and simplify user interactions. The AI Companion is being designed to connect seamlessly with other Zoom functionalities, ensuring that users can complete their tasks more effectively.

As part of its ambitious roadmap, Zoom also plans to introduce a new add-on option, the $12 per month Custom AI Companion, which will include features like custom avatar generation—an AI version of the user to facilitate messaging to teams. Basic avatar templates will also be added to the platform at no extra cost to users.

Overall, these critical updates signal a shift toward automation within Zoom’s ecosystem, reinforcing the company’s goal to harness AI efficiently to improve user experience. With a commitment to continually enhance its platform, Zoom is setting the stage for a future where AI not only assists users but actively manages significant components of their daily workload.
