Poco has taken a significant step in the smartphone market with the global launch of its X7 series, which comprises the Poco X7, X7 Pro, and the X7 Pro Iron Man Edition. The spotlight is undoubtedly on the X7 Pro, which is essentially a global rebranding of the previously China-exclusive Redmi Turbo 4. However, Poco has implemented a number of adjustments and enhancements to distinguish this model from its predecessor.
At the core of the X7 Pro is the advanced Dimensity 8400 Ultra chipset, which replaces the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 found in many competing phones. This high-performance chip is complemented by LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, allowing for faster loading times and smoother operation, especially in resource-intensive applications and gaming scenarios. In tests comparing performance, the X7 Pro outstripped the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in various metrics including the Geekbench multi-core test and AnTuTu and GPU benchmarks, showcasing its power and efficiency.
One of the standout features of the X7 Pro is Poco’s proprietary “WildBoost Optimization 3.0.” This technology aims to enhance the gaming experience significantly. It offers benefits such as improved audio for competitive gaming, smarter performance scheduling, and enhanced network connectivity through AI antenna selection. Similar optimizations have recently been noted from other brands like OnePlus, indicating a growing trend among manufacturers to refine gaming-centric features.
The software experience is anchored by Xiaomi’s Android 15-based HyperOS 2 custom skin, deviating from the base model, which runs Android 14-based HyperOS. The X7 Pro sports a sleek flat design, measuring just 8.3mm in thickness and weighing 198g. This model is equipped with “Super Resolution Rendering,” presumably an advanced upscaling technology that enhances overall visual performance.
Cooling technology also plays a crucial role in the X7 Pro’s performance. The device employs a sophisticated 5000mm2 loop pump VC cooling system, branded as the POCO 3D IceLoop system, claiming to offer three times better thermal management compared to traditional vapor chamber cooling systems. Coupled with a smart temperature control setup featuring ten dedicated temperature sensors, users can expect excellent thermal regulation under demanding usage conditions.
The display on the X7 Pro is a striking 6.67-inch 1.5K flat AMOLED panel, matching the size of the base model. It boasts an impressive peak brightness of 1400 nits and a local peak brightness of 3200 nits, ensuring vivid and bright visuals even in direct sunlight. The camera system is anchored by a 50MP IMS 882 main sensor alongside an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, delivering satisfactory imaging performance, confirmed by testing.
A significant improvement in durability is marked by the X7 Pro’s IP68 dust and water resistance rating. This is a notable upgrade from the IP54 rating seen in its predecessor. The Pro model also forgoes the traditional 2MP macro camera found in earlier versions, opting instead for a robust 6000mAh battery capable of supporting extended gaming sessions. It is complemented by 90W wired charging support, ensuring quick replenishment of battery life.
For users in India, the X7 Pro offers an even larger 6550mAh battery option. Poco has introduced the X7 Pro in three color choices: a sophisticated Black with a vegan leather finish, vibrant Green, and lively Yellow. The device is now available for purchase on Flipkart, scheduled for sale starting January 14th at noon. The pricing for India is set at ₹27,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant and ₹29,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model. Additionally, a 12GB + 512GB version can be found on Poco’s UK website, priced at £309.00, equivalent to around ₹32,600.
The Poco X7 Pro thus presents a compelling option for consumers seeking a feature-rich smartphone with advanced specifications and improved performance metrics. With its focus on gaming, durability, and speed, it stands poised to capture attention in a competitive market.
