Philips has rolled out an exciting update for its Hue app, enhancing the smart lighting experience for its users. The new version, 5.28, now available on iOS, iPadOS, and Android, introduces four fresh lighting effects: cosmos, underwater, enchant, and sunbeam. This update allows users to creatively simulate various environments, with the underwater effect mimicking the serene glimmer of light found beneath ocean waves. With these additions, Philips continues to expand the capabilities of its smart lighting products, bringing the total number of available effects to ten.

Long known for its advanced lighting technology, the Philips Hue app allows users to transform their spaces using a diverse range of dynamic lighting effects. These include options that replicate warm candlelight or the flickering glow of a fireplace, enhancing the ambiance of any room. More significantly, Version 5.28 empowers users with the ability to customize these effects, allowing for adjustments in both color and intensity. This means that now, one could enjoy the soothing glow of a pink candle or modify the flicker speed and brightness to suit their mood, significantly enhancing personal control over the lighting experience.

The timing of this update couldn’t be better, as creative lighting has become an essential element in home decor and mood-setting for various occasions. Philips has recognized the growing competition from brands like Govee and Nanoleaf, which have offered more versatile customization options in their smart lighting systems. This update marks a positive step for Philips, reminding consumers of the advantages that competitive innovation brings.

In addition to the new effects, the Philips Hue app has also included several other updates. Users will now find the lighting style called scattered, previously exclusive to the Philips Hue Festavia string lights, available on all gradient lights in the Hue lineup. Moreover, with the recent upgrades to iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, app visibility has improved, featuring icons and widgets that come in both dark and tinted styles.

As Halloween approaches, Philips is keeping the festive spirit alive by reintroducing themed lighting scenes in the Hue app. Users can now set the mood with a variety of color transitions and special effects to create an eerie atmosphere, as the app once again features eight Halloween scenes, including favorites like spellbound and witching hour.

With every update, Philips demonstrates its commitment to evolving its smart lighting solution, elevating user experience through enhanced capabilities. Consumers can look forward to the continued refinement of features that help personalize their environments and keep their homes vibrant and dynamic throughout the year.
