Google’s Gemini Deep Research feature is making waves as it rolls out to iPhone users, a significant leap from its initial launch for Android earlier this month. Designed for Gemini Advanced subscribers, this feature transforms the way users conduct research by utilizing advanced reasoning and extensive context capabilities. As a first agentic feature of Gemini, it began its journey on gemini.google.com back in December. The process is straightforward; users initiate by posing a research question, no matter how complex, and Gemini subsequently formulates a tailored, multi-step plan for exploration. After users hit the ‘Start Research’ button, Gemini embarks on a thorough online search process that typically spans between five to ten minutes. It compiles information through repetitive searches, constantly refining insights until the report is comprehensive. Longer inquiries will naturally require more time, but users are free to close the app after initiating the search, receiving a notification on completion. The finalized reports are systematically organized, complete with relevant sections, tables, and detailed sources cited at the bottom for user reference. Users can further streamline their workflow by exporting these reports directly to Google Docs. However, there are structured limits on daily research requests, with notifications in place to inform users about their consumption. Underpinning the Deep Research feature is the Gemini 1.5 Pro model, with predictions that the advanced 2.0 Pro version will be available as soon as it concludes its experimental phase. This gives users a glimpse into what’s next for this innovative tool in research and AI. The iPhone app interface prominently displays the Gemini feature, alongside the 2.0 Flash experimental models and the soon-to-be-retired 1.5 family. Google’s proactive approach in enhancing research capabilities signifies its commitment to integrating AI into everyday applications, promising a more intuitive and effective research experience for its users.
