In a much-anticipated announcement, Analogue has finally provided details about its modern reimagining of the beloved Nintendo 64, now officially named the Analogue 3D. Although initially intended for a 2024 release, the sleek console is now set to launch in the first quarter of 2025, sporting a price tag of $249.99 and available in both classic black and white options. Preorders for the Analogue 3D will commence at 11 AM ET on October 21, a move that has generated excitement among retro gamers and collectors alike.
The Analogue 3D was first unveiled earlier this year, capturing the interest of enthusiasts familiar with Analogue’s previous consoles that have celebrated classics like the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy. Designed with a high-definition display experience in mind, the new console boasts the ability to upscale classic N64 games to 4K resolution, alongside several display modes that replicate the nostalgic look of CRT screens. This is made possible through a tailor-made, advanced 4K upscaler that Analogue claims will redefine retro gaming.
One of the standout features of the Analogue 3D is its commitment to preserving the authenticity of the gaming experience. With FPGA technology, the console ensures 100% compatibility with the existing library of N64 cartridges while remaining region-free. This is particularly significant as the N64 has frequently been challenging to emulate successfully, making this feature a game changer for fans of the original system who wish to relive those classic moments.
The technical specs of the Analogue 3D further enhance its appeal. It supports Bluetooth connectivity, includes four original controller ports for the N64 controllers, offers two USB ports for added functionality, and provides an SD card slot for additional storage needs. Additionally, the console introduces a new operating system known as 3D OS, details of which were also previewed alongside the console’s reveal.
Notably, while the Analogue 3D does not come bundled with a controller, the company has partnered with 8bitdo to create an enhanced version of the classic N64 gamepad. This updated controller, which omits the original’s third prong, is available for $39.99. Features include a Hall effect stick and compatibility with a variety of systems, including the Nintendo Switch, Android devices, and PC. Gamers can also connect any original N64 controllers they have, maintaining the integrity of an authentic gaming experience.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve with new hardware releases, including the imminent launch of the PS5 Pro by Sony and a new console from Nintendo, the timing of the Analogue 3D’s reveal could not be more intriguing. This announcement not only excites retro gamers but also positions Analogue as a key player in the modern gaming landscape, bridging the gap between nostalgia and the advancements of contemporary gaming technology. With only a few days left until preorders begin, enthusiasts are eager to secure their chance to own a piece of gaming history, redefined for today’s generation.
